Storage

When you basically full time in your RV, storage of non-rv related items can be a hassle.  Do you keep a rented storage locker somewhere, have a generous friend willing to store your items or some kind of property of your own that can be used.  Renting storage facilities can be very pricey over time.  That has certainly helped us in the short term, but we are now looking at other options. 

Kim is also in need for an area to keep her quilting and crafting supplies handy and usable.  Yesterday we designed a small building/studio and hopefully have a quote on it by tomorrow.  It seems like we never have enough to do or going on, so why not add some more?

oh, those weeds

We are back in the Shuswap, busy with outside chores.  There will be bags of weeds to go to the dump.  The upside of pulling weeds, is that the weather is finally nice!  After a very cool, very wet summer in the north we are now enjoying 30C sunny days, and we are sure not used to it. As the WW of the West said, " I'm melting, I'm melting ".

A quick trip to Kamloops yesterday to visit our friends and to pick up a BBQ cover from Home depot.  This time of year there are half decent prices for mulch and dirt, so a few bags managed to find their way into the trunk of the car.

On the grandbaby front:  we are waiting for the phone call to tell us that "things are starting to happen" and then we will be off like a shot to Victoria.

Quiet weekend

We plan on leaving our northern homesite on Tuesday, making our way to Prince George.  So, we completed a few more minor chores on the new house, mostly to keep ourselves busy.  Kim scrubbed down the kitchen and dining area floors and then gave them a super coat of floor wax to make it look almost like new.  The greenhouse also received a little bit of paint around a window.  The driveway needs a coat of black sealer, but of course, we are still enjoying the steady, relentless rain and that task may have to wait.

Our son, who is staying in the house, has Netflix instead of cable or satellite television.  First we had to learn how to work his game controls in order to learn how to get around Netflix. Rainy weather has been advantageous to us to enjoy old British comedies like Ballykissangel, The Vicar of Dibley and some movies.  Well, the rain has to have some benefit, because we have had enough!

Calgary was fun

Last weekend we enjoyed Donald's sister's Birthday party and most of the family was able to get together and enjoy a great BBQ.  Our great-niece was also competing in the Alberta Provincial swim meet on Sunday morning, so we were able to go see her swim at the Talisman Centre in downtown Calgary.

A quick call to our friend, Bob, whom we spent time with this past winter at Quartzsite and Imperial Dam resulted in seeing his fantastic condo and a great riverwalk and lunch.

We are back in the north country till next week, then we shall begin the trek southwards via a couple of days in Prince George for appointments. Kim is busy tearing into all the cupboards of the 5th wheel and doing a really good cleaning job.  Donald is golfing today ( Mens Night ).  Fun stuff... well for Donald anyway. Last day of work tomorrow for my daughter in law and the due date is approaching!!!!

Our big home has been for sale since last November, and we made a deal for the asking price when we were in Tucson, and also the timeline to clear it out for the new owners.  That happened to be at the end of July, so boy have we been busy.  Some can also call us crazy, but we bought another small house.  Why? Well, we felt a need to have something in case we had to come 'off the road' in the future.  It will be rented in the interim, and the real estate market here in Northern BC is hot with the future looking equally economically busy, so we felt it was a good investment. That then resulted in further work moving items into storage and making arrangements. Whew! The new house is much newer and smaller, at 1202 square feet, all on one level.  It also has a great shed for our storage, and a greenhouse.

We did though have some time for some fun, as we enjoyed a campout down at the river with our Dinner Club.  Hard to beat a gourmet dinner and some strings!

The following weekend was our annual trek to the Kispiox Music Festival in the unbelievable Kispiox Valley - music, mountains and fishing!!! Four of our RV units are pulled together to make a 'square' for visiting, entertaining and the Saturday "Glamping" ( think Glamor, Gourmet and Camping together ) Cocktail Hour.  The weather was rainy off and on, but that never seems to deter the laughs.

And now... we are off back to the Shuswap with a load of various items ( yes, Paulette, quilting supplies ) to storage there and then off to a family celebration in Calgary for the weekend.  We are leaving the 5th wheel in the north, so we will make a big round trip back to pick it up and then back down to the Shuswap. Donald has been busy making sure all is ok with the new house prior to our leaving for the winter, and Kim is just finishing the last of the new grandbaby quilts. One more month to that exciting event.

We were just talking about our trip down south this coming winter, and how relaxing it will be after this summer!!!!
