Had the urge to check out our local Provincial Park

We must have a bit of hitch itch - or at least I do with work stress. I want out of here!   It looked like it was going to be a nice day, but who wee - the wind!  We had a howler last night - woke us up about 4 am and I thought we were going to lose a couple of trees.  That wind continued on in the day, just a lot lighter.
We decided in the afternoon to get out, take a drive to our nearest Provincial Park ( yep, it is only about 10 miles away ) and see how that is faring through the winter.  Of course, little Gator loves country car rides and walks.  Well, Donna ( Adventures with Tassie ) there is still much too much snow up here in the bush.  I think the southwest is a good choice right now!

Roads through the Provincial Park campground
Guess who has been enjoying the tree sticks and bushes?  You bet - Moose.

We did enjoy our walk, and it looks like within a week all this snow will be gone.  Our feet were pretty wet as the ground underneath was soggy and watery.  Gator loved it, though.  She couldn't wait to get out of the car, sniff at the air and all the bushes, trees, posts and the ground.  What stories her nose must tell her, we can only imagine.

We had to walk as far anyway as our favorite campsite, # 41, which overlooks the presently frozen lake.  It looks almost ready to welcome us.

Stuff

The first official day of Spring has passed by on the calendar, and even though it arrives in Northern British Columbia far later than other places, we do have one wee tulip trying to pop up in the front garden.
Donald is busy working on a post in the kitchen renovation.  It will be fabulous when it is done - and then I can get back to painting and finishing them off.
I will have pictures on the finish of the kitchen later.  We are getting anxious to be outdoors and camping - that of course will have to wait, but a sunny day really makes you long for those rv times.  Donald has been helping a friend look up new fancy tires for his little trailer.
I cannot wait for Easter weekend and four days off work - hmmm what to do.... perhaps all will be ready for me to finish the painting... perhaps I will totally clean out one of the rooms in the house and pack up some boxes of stuff. Yes, stuff. I think there is a new book out about having too much STUFF.  I should have written it.  I will be getting rid of STUFF!
I am needing to chill out after work these days, and with spring in the air, I have started a spring quilt with my fabric STUFF.

Plodding along....

Again, we have not blogged for some time.  There is nothing much new to report, other than we have been busy still with the kitchen renovation.  Slow but a good job.  I have been busy making some cards and a birthday present quilt.
Now that April is almost here, it will soon be time to take the truck out of winter storage.  We do not need it in the winter time here as we can get around with just the car.  It saves quite a bit on insurance and of course miles and wear and tear on the truck.  We also do not need then to put snow tire on it.  The purpose of the truck is to pull the RV, anyway which at this point is just a summer session!
We are not making any plans at this point due to a few family items that have come up. Peace, all!

welcome new followers

We are not very diligent at checking to see if we have new followers - so a very welcome to new followers Sam and Donna, who are preparing to retire and get on the road like us, and a very young family who are already on the road - Freely Living.
Donald is still puttering away at the kitchen - just one small part left to do on the countertop. We have 2 posts that go up to the ceiling, and having checked, only one of the posts is weight bearing and necessary. We are still deciding whether to take out the one, or to box around both of them as they are only a few inches apart, to make one post.  After that decision is made, the last 5 inches of countertop can be placed and Kim can finish off the painting.  In the meantime, she is going through closets and cleaning out cupboards for things to take to the dump and things to donate to the "New to you" shop. It is a great clothing and small item second hand shop in town, with the proceeds of the shop donated for medicals items/equipment needed by our local hospital.  They have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The weather here in Northern British Columbia has turned to spring, with warmer days and longer daylight!  Kim is now going to work and coming home in the light!  Whoo hoo!
The oldest son and lovely wife are about to celebrate their six month anniversary, so that prompted Kim to make a St Patricks day table runner and card to be sent in a box of assorted "green themed" goodies.  It is always fun to get care packages from home.

time to get back to chores

We have been very lax about posting - so the excuses are the Olympic watching and puttering with the kitchen renovations.  I would like to say that I had a hand in the recent kitchen reno chores, but alas, with the sawdust flying, the painting has been at a standstill.   Donald is making his way around the last bits of the cabinets and is now making a wine rack - boy the new owners should enjoy it!
We are still reading with envy many of the rv travelling blogs and that is still our goal.  Somedays I feel like we are climbing an uphill battle to nowhere - especially when my work place is somewhere I would rather not be.  Grumpy thoughts on a beautiful spring day.  I should know better.
I started a blog just for the 'crafty' stuff that I do - it does not belong here on this site. Check it out if you are into quilting, designing, and carding. ( www.skeenadesigns.blogspot.com )
We are so glad that Ryan Miller received MVP for the Olympic hockey. It was very well deserved. He looked pretty sad at the medal ceremony, but giddy at the Closing Ceremony a couple of hours later. We are not hockey people, but we of course did watch the games. I think it is unfortunate that so much of Canadian media time is spent on the hockey games - one small part of the Olympics.  A great favorite is the new snowboard and ski cross races and the not so new short track races - way to go Team Canada!  One of our RV gang ( she of the red shoes - see posts July 09 ) was Chief of Start at the Cross Country/Nordic Venue in the Callahan Valley and I am sure she will have lots of stories!
So, now the Olympics are over and we need to get back on track for getting this house in order and cleaning out stuff.
